What is Digital History? (Part 1)

… I don’t really know at this point. I can say that it involves using digital technology to create a better understanding of history. This would ostensibly include the digitization of primary source materials from the collections of various historical institutions or publishing school textbooks online for students, but I also imagine that it includes professional historians engaging in dialogue with fellow historians and non-professionals on sites such as H-Net or on blogs.

I am very excited to be taking a digital history course this semester at IUPUI that will be taught by Dr. Jason Kelly. You can learn about the materials were are going to be using and watch my class’s progress here.

I’ll get back to you on an answer to this question at a later date. In the meantime, what do you think digital history is?
